about the host

Tim Hsia is the Founder and Managing Partner of Context Ventures, a venture fund dedicated to backing military veteran founders and high-growth consumer startups. A West Point graduate and former U.S. Army infantry officer, Tim earned a Bronze Star for his service during two deployments to Iraq before transitioning to the private sector.

After earning his JD/MBA from Stanford University, Tim founded Media Mobilize, an integrated media and marketing agency. His track record as an early-stage investor includes notable successes such as:

  • Acquisitions: Workflow (Apple), Morning Brew (Business Insider), and The Hustle (HubSpot).

  • Public Markets: ThredUp (IPO) and Proterra (SPAC).

  • Growth: Lime, Secureframe, and FabFitFun.

A passionate advocate for the veteran community, Tim co-founded Service to School and VetraFi, a veteran-led banking platform designed for the entire U.S. military community. He serves on the boards of Bunker Labs and the Marine’s Memorial Association. He is a Pat Tillman Foundation Scholar and a published contributor to The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times. Based in San Francisco, Tim balances his time between investing, writing, and his family.
